L’edificio venne fondato nel XIV secolo, ma fu ristrutturato nel 1563 da Bartolomeo Genga. La dedicazione della chiesa ai Santi Pietro e Paterniano, risale al 1444 e deriva dall’unificazione di due parrocchie distanti fra loro, mentre l’elevazione a Insigne Collegiata è del 1741, quando fu necessario ampliare la chiesa perché era divenuta la più importante della zona. All’interno sono collocate opere di pregevole fattura come: l’angelo custode del Bottani del XVIII. L’immacolata concezione , attribuita alla scuola del BarocciI Santi protettori di Mondavio ( Sant’Eleuterio Papa e San Michele Arcangelo) del XVIII di Sebastiano Ceccarini
